Any Provocation Could be a Pretext to Attack Iran

The United States is already preparing to launch a military operation
against Iran and any provocation by either party could be used as a
pretext, said Col. General Leonid Ivashov, vice president of the
Russian Academy of Geopolitical Sciences.

?Provocations have led to many wars and the detention of the British
Marines could be the torch that triggers a new war,? said Ivashov in
a press conference on Sunday.

"Neither of the parties is looking for a compromise solution," he
said.

The UK Defense Ministry reported on March 23 that Iran had captured
15 British Marines in Iraqi waters where they were providing service
on the HMS Cornwall and inspecting merchant ships in Iraqi
territorial waters under UN Security Council Resolution 1723. Due to
Iran`s refusal to free the British soldiers, London has asked for
support from the UN Security Council.

Ivashov maintains that Iran`s nuclear development is not what most
concerns the United States. "Even if the Iranian nuclear program had
a military nature, it would need 10 to 15 years to produce an atomic
weapon," he noted.

"In reality, the Americans want to take control of Iranian oil
because experts believe the oil left in the US and Canada will only
last another ten years."

The high ranking officer added that the fall of the US dollar and a
stagnation of the economy could be other factors.

"It would be advantageous for the US to provoke a war to spark its
economy," said Ivashov.

Intelligence reports reveal US is finishing preparations for an
invasion.

Russian intelligence reports reveal that the Pentagon has practically
finished its preparations for a possible invasion of Iran, stated a
source within the Russian Armed Forces.

The intelligence data points out that the US has already drafted its
list of targets for attack in Iran and the US troops have been
practicing an invasion plan.

The same source indicates that the US Command will be ready to launch
the military operation in the first half of April, but underlined
that the final decision would be made by US political leaders.

Washington threatens Tehran for refusing to dismantle its nuclear
program. The last UN Security Council resolution against Iran,
approved the weekend before last, calls for economic sanctions but
rules out the use of force.
