Tomorrow the national government and social organizations that support
it will evaluate the current political situation, a day after it was revealed
that the largest union organization in the country, the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB), will form it's own party to confront Evo Morales in Bolivia's 2008 general election.

Tomorrow's meeting will be a strictly political gathering, to analyze
the government's performance and the general situation in the country,
according to official spokesman Alex Contreras.

The evaluation was promoted by President Morales; in the last ten days
he replaced the chairman of the state oil company and the minister of
mining, the two sectors of greatest political weight in the Bolivian
economic system, and Morales began a purge against corruption inside
his party [the MAS].

Ministers, vice-ministers and the leaders of the governing Movimiento
al Socialismo (MAS) will participate in the meeting.

"We have never held a joint political evaluation. Two ministers will
make an analysis of the situation of the country and of the
government, and then a debate will take place and conclusions will be
drawn," explained Contreras.

The evaluation will take place as "signs of weakness of the political
and union leaders in the MAS and in society as a whole are
appearing," after 15 months of government, according to the
pro-government legislator César Navarro.

The government analysis will be the first since President Evo Morales
publicly declared his support, 20 days ago, for moving up the
elections to 2008, when the new Constitution comes into force.

The Constituent Assembly, in which the government has a majority, is
currently drawing up that Constitution. According to the official
schedule, this should end on August 6, in order to be submitted to a
referendum in December, before it is published.

The social organizations related to the MAS immediately announced
their support for the presidential initative and moved up their
proclamation of Morales as their official candidate, assuming that the
new constitution will include the subject of re-election and will
permit the current President to participate.
