Louis posted a Newsweek Survey on the religious
beliefs of people in the Below are the results of a
similar survey conducted by El Tiempo in Colombia. 

The spring equinox and its assorted sacrificial
holidays, e.g. Easter seems to cause the media to
publish these surveys at this time of year. If anyone
has info from other countries they could post it would
be interesting. My general take is that the victory of
imperialism in the cold war sent human consciousness
reeling backward, one result of which has been the
revival of religious belief in all corners of the
globe. However, that revival has not been even, as the
decline of Catholicism in Colombia and Latin America
evidence.

Colombian religious beliefs (source El Tiempo, April
2, 2007)

Practicing Catholics    57.6%
Non-practicing Catholics        22.4%
Evangelic Christian     10.1%
No Religion     7.4%
Other Religion          1.0%
Atheists, Agnostics
and Skeptics            0.8%
No Answer       0.3%

What this boils down to is that the Catholic Church
has lost 5,000,000 people in Colombia over the last
decade, and most of them have gone into the ranks of
the evangelical Protestant sects.

Among the other interesting figures of the survey are
the facts that there are about 10,000 Muslims in
Colombia, and 7,000 to 8,000 Jews. Mainstream
Protestant footholds in Colombia are small: 10,000
Presbyterians, 10,000 Episcopalians, and 1,500
Methodists.
