[Marxism] Re: Grenada's premier seeks burial sites

Walter Lippman submitted:
But [Grenadian Premier] Mitchell said the U.S. government would
have had no reason to do that. [Take and conceal the bodies of his murdered
fellow leaders, including his pregnant companion --FF]

"I can't say that I believe that the Americans have anything to do
with this," he said.

A spokesman for the U.S. Defense Department also dismissed the
theory.

"These allegations have been floating around for some time, decades
in fact, without any credible evidence to back the claims," Navy
Cmdr. Jeffrey Gordon said.

Last month, Grenadian authorities gave an early release for good
behavior to three of the men.

Fred comments:
I am all for Premier Mitchell doing what he can to get the truth from Coard
and the other murderers. Anything they know about where they buried the
fallen fighters can only help the search.

But I think Mitchell is wrong to think there is no reason why the US would
take the bodies.
These were political leaders, with broad support in the masses, who died
leading the masses in opposition to the coup carried out by Bernard Coard
and his ultra-Stalinist clique, a counterrevolutionary coup despite their
self-delusion about attacking Bishop's "moderation" from the left.

The bodies, the funeral ceremonies, the graves would have been centers of
mass mobilization as the US-completed counterrevolution sought to
consolidate its position. Their presence would have been an obstacle to the
desire to make people forget that Bishop and his revolutionary team ever
existed and to identify the revolution with the Coardites and their
murderous coup.

I want to further note something about the response of the US Naval
commander. It is definitely a non-denial, to use the "All the President's
Men" lingo from the Watergate era.
He notes simply that those who make the claim have been unable to prove
their claim. He does not say, from the official knowledge of the US
military, that it is not true.

So the end of the concealment by the Coard criminals (and they are criminals
despite the illegitimacy of their trial and conviction by the beneficiaries
of their actions) of how they disposed of the bodies may not end the search,
although it is a very valuable starting point.
