Hi Lajanyu
there are three instances where the Iranians have collaborated with the
Americans:
Bonsia
Afghanistan
and Iraq.
In all three cases they have been repaid for their services by being attacked
by the Americans.
They will not learn the lessons that revolutionaries should because they are
not revolutionaries. Sounds simple, banal even, but I wish I had a dollar for
every leftist with illusions in Ahmadinejad.
Your point about the American ruling class pushing now to avoid the
consedquences of defeat is proably correct. But there is still the possibility
that a fraction of the American ruling class will move to pull the plug on
Bush, because his adventurism is threatening the position of their class. For
the moment they will go along with escalation, but only because they are locked
in for fear of the consequences of losing. However the outcome of the
disasters in Iran as well as in Iraq may persuade them otherwise. In the mean
time it would be wrong to underestimate their triumphalism at have so
effectively split the Arab and Islamic worlds. This Shi-Sunni divide would be
regarded as a real accomplishment by the Bush gang and the American ruling
class.
They now think they have a point of leverage they did not have before.
Meanwhile the various factions in Iran are paralysed in face of the coming
attack. They have only one solution which is to not respond to the American
provocations and propaganda and to continue their behind the scenes
cooperation. That of course makes them all the more vulnerable. If there is a
move against Amadinejad that will be a sign that an even greater surrender is
coming.
By the same token al-Sadr is trying to avoid provoking the Americans while
continuing the slaughter and displacement of the Sunnis in Baghdad.
regards
Gary
