Ever since I became homebound I watch more TV than I should;
normally, I don't care much about the politics of a show as long as
there's a decent story (this is American TV after all).
But the over-hyped beginning of "24" was too much to stomach --
from Chinese torture of prisoners (gasp!), to the crowds of people
watching the latest terrorist attrocity on Fox News, to the good,
white suburban nuclear family who saves the Arab teen next door
from being lynched, only to be taken hostage by him later because
he's in a secret terrorist cell; to the Muslim activist who discovers
his patriotism in a internment camp where he decides to spy on
fellow inmates -- the only thing missing was Iranian backing for the
terrorists or a heroic act of bravery by a member of the Israeli
embassy. Probably those will be added next week.
