[Marxism] On the coming attacks on Iran & the Gaza Strip & the Sunnis in Baghdad
1. There is an interesting article by Ahmed Al-Jarallah
Editor-in-Chief, the Arab Times Sunday 14th linked at
<palestinianpundit.blogspot.com>
It contains this beauty:
"The Bush administration believes attacking Iran will create a new power
balance in the region, calm down the situation in Iraq and pave the way for
their democratic project, which had to be suspended due to the interference of
Tehran and Damascus in Iraq, he continued. The attack on Iran will weaken the
Syrian regime, which will eventually fade away, the source said."
Don't you just love the sound of "their democratic project"? Strange how they
don't have one in Palestine or Lebanon.
2. As for the Gaza the palestinian pundit links to a <debka.com> report that
"Rice also spoke with defense minister Amir Peretz and minister for strategic
threats Avigdor Lieberman. The latter informed her that Israelâs reoccupation
of the Gaza Strip to halt the stream of missiles against Israel was inevitable
and suggested that NATO dispatch 30,000 troops to hold and secure the
Palestinian territory thereafter. "
3. Meanwhile back in Baghdad Juan Cole provides a link to a McClatchy
Newspapers report at <http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/16454939.htm>.
It is well worth a read. It describes how the Sadrists are taking a low
profile and hiding their weapons and dismantling their road blocks so as not to
provoke the Americans. There seems to be gneral agreement that the first
target will be the Sunnis.
4. So what to make of all this? Well my first impression is that 2007 will be
a hell of a year. Somehow or other the Bush gang have decided that they should
go for broke. The disaster in Iraq will be followed by disasters in Gaza and
Iran. The entire region will be even further "destabilised".
I am beginning to wonder if Bush intends quitting in two years time.
regards
Gary
