Re: [Marxism] cellphone usage in India

It is a fact that the cellphone has benefited many people in India in the
manner that the article has described. In Kerala, where I live, the cellphone
is used by fish-vendors to find markets which offer best prices. Daily-wage
labourers like masons and carpenters and workers like coconut-pluckers also are
helped by the mobility the cellphone provides. The cellphone has become a
common-man's device here in Kerala, cutting across class-barriers. But I am
sceptical about it acting as a tool for empowerment in the broad sense,
granting it has given ordinary people more mobility along with the resulting
benefits.

Greetings,

Rajesh
