to protest sanctions against North Korea

Hundreds of activists from scores of groups will rally 
tomorrow at Dag Hammerskjold to demand an end to the Bush 
Administration campaign of threats, hostility, and 
sanctions against the people of Korea.  The present 
crisis, like so many crises world-wide, grows directly out 
of the global agenda of the U.S. Adminsitration, a policy 
of endless war and regime change. The people of the United 
States and the world must demand that Washington end the 
crisis by abandoning its threats and provocations, 
dropping the demand for sanctions.

Join us tomorrow (Wednesday) at the UN to demand "U.S. 
Hands Off Korea!"

Stop U.S. War Threats: No Sanctions Against the DPRK
Sign a Peace Treaty - NO WAR!


When: Thursday, October 12 at 10 AM

Where: Downtown Federal Building (300 N. Los Angeles St)

What: Activists and organizations demand end to Bush war 
campaign against people of
Korea and denounce sanctions against DPRK as part of the 
national week of demonstrations.


Countries that are forced to defend themselves from Bush?s 
pre-emptive strike doctrines
of ?regime change by force? are not the cause of war and 
weapons of mass destruction.
With 140,000 troops still in Iraq and hundreds of 
thousands dead as a result of  U.S. war
on Iraq, people all over the world know that the threat to 
peace and stability comes right
from the Pentagon and the White House.

For over 50 years the DPRK tried to get Washington to 
normalize relations and sign a
peace treaty ending the Korean War. Before the cease-fire 
of 1953, U.S.-led forces killed
4 million Koreans. And, for over 56 years the North has 
been under economic sanctions
imposed by the U.S. ? the longest economic sanctions in 
world history. This economic
warfare is responsible for the harsh economic conditions 
in the DPRK.
 
The DPRK has made numerous proposals for the 
denuclearization of the Korean
peninsula, yet the Bush administration has branded the 
DPRK as part of an axis of evil,
and used this to justify its Nuclear Posture Review of 
2002 which states its willingness to
use nuclear weapons against the DPRK without an attack or 
even threat of attack against
the U.S.

The DPRK is encircled by a naval armada of U.S. guided 
missile destroyers,
bomber and fighter squadrons, nuclear weapons and 30,000 
U.S. troops in South Korea.
Add to this the belligerence of U.S. imperialism around 
the world and it is no wonder that
the DPRK decided to develop an effective deterrent against 
military and possibly nuclear
attack as a matter of national survival. Any sanctions 
against the DPRK would be
unjustified since the country withdrew from the Non 
Proliferation Treaty in response to U.S.
non-cooperation.

The people of the United States must demand the U.S. 
abandon its threats and
provocations and sit down and negotiate the normalization 
of relations with the DPRK,
including the signing of a peace treaty.

Westwood Federal Building to demand an end to the Bush 
Administration campaign of threats, hostility, and 
sanctions against the people of Korea. Countries that are 
forced to defend themselves from Bush's pre-emptive strike
