Re: [Marxism] Re: What will be effect of N Korea nuclear test?

Fred & David's contributions on this thread have been thoughtful as always. I
hope they are right but the hysteria around North Korea's test has been very
pronounced.

As for China and what the Chinese elites will do, I suspect that Fred is right.
Here in Australia an "expert" at the Australian National University, claimed
that the Chinese could collapse the North Korean Government at will. I am not
so sure at all. I think that if an American attack on North Korea were to take
place then it is just as likely that the Chinese government would be replaced,
precisely for the reasons that Fred has outlined.

Here in Oz, the government has pressed full on the MANUFACTURE FEAR button,
when they had previously dismissed North Korea as a threat. The Australian Govt
is of course little more than a cheer leader for the Bush Administration. Nor
would they have a clue than me what the US intends to do.

Has the USA withdrawn its troops from close to the border with North Korea?
That has been recommended by right wing elements to place American troops
outside the range of North Korean artillery.

My own personal best guess is that N. Korea is on the back burner and that the
real target of US plans is still Iran.

Yet anything could happen and the North Korean test makes an attack on Iran
more rather than less likely IMHO.

regards

Gary
