"Why are clicking your fingers all the time?"
"Keeps the elephants away."
"But there aren't any elephants for miles."
"Shows how effective it is!"
With deepest respect, this is pure utter unmitigated bollocks.
So the absence of any evidence of conspiracy means there must have been one?
I wish the whole thing was a conspiracy. Then all we'd have to do would be to
burst into the smoke-filled room, grab all the conspirators then send them of
for re-education, put them up against the wall, lower them slowly into a tank
teeming with ravenous piranha depending on one's personal beliefs about their
propensity for rehabilitating and the most efficacious means for achieving
that. We would then be able to set about constructing the socialist order
without fear of interference.
Unfortunately, it isn't like that except in fairy-tales. Have you ever actually
seen these assholes at work, worked for them, or had to get them to do the
simplest thing? I can only guffaw at the supposed omniscience, omnipotence,
foresight, discipline, cunning, efficiency, intelligence, commitment,
self-abnegation and ability to zip their lips which you attribute to them.
Sometime, somewhere, someone leaves a zipper undone, deliberately or otherwise,
and it starts to hang out and come unravelled.
Naturally these people plot and scheme and huff and puff and do their best to
stop the house from falling down, but whichever way they turn, they run into
the laws of history (you can't crap on someone forever without consequence) or
