Well, Lou, someone has to provide comic relief for antiquarians of the
future peering into odd corners of 21st century life. Now in the early
18th c. the real thing provided such relief: You had Walpole the Prime
Minister spending hours exchanging dirty stories with Queen Caroline;
and when Caroline lay dying the King gushed emotionally, "I will never
marry again, I will only take mistresses," to which Caroline replied,
that "being married is no barrier to that." Now Bush cannot equal that,
but the Conspiracists can. Future historians will be able to keep
500-seat lecture halls filled with students rolling on the floor
laughing with tears in their eyes.
