[Marxism] Marxism and Conspiracy
Louis Proyect
I am not sure what you mean by "the rightwing". The British Empire,
despite having abolished slavery, tilted to the South because it was
a primary source of cotton.
^^^^
CB: This is sort of avoiding the point here. What we call those trying to
get Britain in on the side of the South is not very important. How about
"proConfederacy" ? Do you think that pro-Confederacites are not
appropriately called rightwing ? Wasn't Marx leftwing ?
^^^^^^
This Trent crisis was precipitated by a
US Navy warship stopping a British ship in international waters to
capture two Confederate ambassadors on board. The British began to
speak of a military reprisal but when the US released the men,
tensions were eased. The British might have used the incident as a
provocation, but this is fairly routine in military-diplomatic
affairs. Taking over for the British, the US stages such provocations
all the time.
^^^^^
CB: Uhh , Lou, the point is Marx, whose conduct is a model for Marxism,
wrote on other topics besides abstract and general political economy. He
wrote about a specific event that involved a conspiracy to turn a specific
event into a basis for the Brits joining the South. Surely you see the
analogy to writing about the specifics of 9/11 today, and the very strong
implication that debating and arguing the specifics of 9/11 are not excluded
from what Marxists do.
