The resemblances of conspiracism to creatiionism ("intelligent design")
continue to pile up. This emphasis on peculiarities is one of the major
hallmarks of analysis grounded on the premise that if we don't know
everything we know nothing. Of course there are peculiarities, as there
are peculiarities in all human activities and all social relations. And
the price of focusing on those peculiarities is the endless generation
of mysteries, mysteries which can only be solved by appeal to an
omnipotent and omniscient controlling intellect. The ways of god are
mysterious to man or the us government has "possible hidden motives" --
the mind set is identical in these two attitudes.

Yes we should because this infatuation with peculiarities is a major
barrier to collective political action.

So. Why if they agree on this do they immediately insist on cluttering
_that_ question with (as Lou puts) with "stoopid" investigations of the
irrelevant.

Pure mysticism. There is no way to understand policy if we clutter
understanding with balderdash about "hidden motives," hidden gods,
hidden powers.
