[Marxism] 'quote-mongering' and all that

Can it really be true that folks on this list, who are always primed to quote sacred texts when the music starts, are now asking what's all this stuff about quote-mongering, quizzes, etc--- when asked to come up with up quotes from their masters about the self-development of the working class through its struggles?
Frankly, I think that Steve Masterson (who I thank much for his kind words and for the reference to Cyril Smith) greatly overstated his point. There certainly are sightings of this theme here and there (as in Lenin's observation that the working class learns more in a week of revolution than in a year of routine life); however, aside from Rosa Luxemburg, for whom this is a leitmotiv (how could Steve ignore her?), this is indeed not the central theme that it was for Marx.
So, on the matter of quote-mongering and all that, perhaps the real point is that the dog didn't bark.
in solidarity,
michae
