RE: [Marxism] Re: What do _I_ mean by Fascism here?,

David writes, about the characterization of governments in Latin America as
fascist, "I think as a guide to action, however, I suppose it could have
implications how one characterizes a gov't, at least in teems of maybe how
one builds a united front and with what kind of program."

There was a sort of left-Stalinist or class-collaborationist argument that
if the government was "fascist," then it was OK to create a "strategic
alliance" with (in other words, subordinate yourself to) "democratic"
bourgeois forces, more often than not imperialist sock-puppets.

At least that's my memory of a number of discussions --and in reality, any
number of discussions-- I had from the late 70's through when I left
Nicaragua in 1988 with various leftists from Latin America. Usually behind
the fascist label there was an agenda of making "democracy" rather than the
fight against imperialism your political axis, with all the consequences
that flowed therefrom.
