re: Soviet survival (was Re: [Marxism] Challenge to Lenin &

I am, of course, a complete idiot.

I forgot the Spanish revolution, the post-WWII civil
war in Greece, post-WWII Italy, France in 1968,
Portugal in 1974 and, even worse, events in Australia
in the 1890s (arguably out of period) and in the early
1930s (the sacking of the Lang government in New South
Wales). I also short-changed the Irish struggle,
although it fits into the anti-colonial struggles I
did refer to.

All of these had potentially revolutionary dynamics.

In the case of the Lang situation, while Lang himself
was a clueless reactionary, the situation came
intriguingly close to a civil war on class lines,
which wouldn't have stayed confined to New South Wales
for very long. Of course, we would have lost, and
since my grandfather was a Langite, I probably
wouldn't have been here!

All of this means that the 20th century was a nearer
run thing for Capital than they would care to admit.

We've only got to be lucky once, and they're screwed.
