completely rewritten.

Most of what I quoted is out. Some is spread out in new articles, but  
it is a lot of work to follow it up. Besides the rewriting could go on.*

The original direct quote from Chertoff, filled with vagaries about  
liquids in general and missing any detonation devices is gone.  
Instead there is an indirect rewriting of Chertoff [done in  
consultation with whom we can only guess]:
"Mr. Chertoff said the attackers planned to carry explosive material  
and detonation components 'disguised as beverages, electronic devices  
and other common objects' onto the planes."
