3 to 5 years? Is that based on the fact that we haven't forced the US to pull
out of Iraq after a few years?
That seems to me to negate the possibility of some big shift in events, in Iraq
or Lebanon or, most ominously, both because of the intertwining of the wars.
And it will be seen as ominous too by masses in both aggressor countries who
react against the death tolls on all sides which make today's massacres seem
puny.
Failing that, even if the next few years see the same level
of atrocity happening now on all fronts, we have to start
from the perspective that in the short term (3 to 5 years) we can
build on the majority sentiment against the Iraq war and build
for the first time if not a majority at least a healthy mass
foundation for anti-Israel sentiment.

All thinking about the anti-war movement should take its point of
departure from this recognition. We are not going to have _any_ impact,
at all, on anything, in the short term (i.e., the next 3 to 5 years).
Given that, what kind of present left activity is most promising down
the road?
