[Marxism] today's solidarity demonstration in NYC

Just a quick report back on today's demonstration and march against the
Israeli agression and in solidarity with the Lebanese and Palestinian
people. The march started at Times Square, following a long rally and then
proceeded to the General Electric headquarters on 50th Street and 6th Ave.
It was larger than previous demos and spirited, perhaps 3000 people as a
very rough estimate. It was also somewhat more diverse than previous demos
I've attended, with a larger (still minimal, though) African American and
Latino presence. I noticed several Muslim African Americans at this demo.
The majority of attendees appeared to be Arabs, mostly Palestinian or
Lebanese. The demo was organized principally by WWP and Al-Awda folks and
had a strong WWP flavor, with speakers from their milieu or party
predominating: Ramsey Clark, Larry Holmes, Teresa Gutierrez, etc. There
were speakers from or bespeaking solidarity with Cuba, Venezuela, Iran,
the Sudan and Korea. A message from Mumia was played, which was anounced
as taped for this rally, but which actually appeared on his website two
weeks ago. It was a good demo, but basically the same groups that built
the last several organized this one. I'm hoping that the movement will
broaden. A UfPJ presence would have been good.
