However, a general call to "boycott the U.S.," as some call for, is
tantamount to calling for inaction, for doing nothing. It's a call for us to
all become hippies and go live on a commune.

I would have thought the following would have been so obvious that it didn't
have to be said, but: the idea of boycotting the US (and Israel) is to
support the REST OF THE WORLD in boycotting the US. I am not suggesting
that people IN THE US should boycott the US. South Africans did not boycott
South Africa and live only on imports during the anti-apartheid boycott.
People who are proposing the "boycott of Israel" are not proposing that
ISRAELIS boycott Israel. If there were a "boycott of the US", our role IN
THE US would not be to live on Fiji water and imported Gruyère cheese. It
would be to provide organizational support for the rest of the world against
our own imperialist ruling class.
