It certainly seems to make practical paths to socialism more feasible when 
you don't have the animosity of powerful forces that don't stand in your way 
(ie religious BELIEF), something quite different from institutionalized 
churches working with ruling elites.  That Fidel was able to navigate that 
strait is one of his greatest achievements.
