A response to one point of Joaquin:
From: "Joaquin Bustelo" <jbustelo@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
There is a manipulation of the genocide committed against the Jews
by (some) Germans. The purpose of this manipulation is to prevent it being
said that (some) Jews are committing genocide and crimes against humanity
today. You can say Europeans committed genocide against the native peoples
of the United States, that the Spanish did so to the native peoples of
Hispaniola and Cuba and Puerto Rico, and everyone understands it was
*some*
Europeans or some Spaniards and you don't need to have 22 pages of
politically correct disclaimers.
But say that Jews are massacring innocent women and children in
Lebanon today, instead of "the Zionists," and it becomes a blood libel.
Even
though those who are doing it say they're Jews, acting as the organized
military force of a state they claim and itself claims is uniquely and
exclusively Jewish, and which all the most visible and prominent Jewish
organizations and so on that I'm aware of agree is a uniquely Jewish
state,
and give it aid and comfort on that basis, a state which if you're a Jew
you're automatically a citizen of if you so choose but if you're not a
Jew,
forget it, no matter how many generations you and your forebears had lived
in this land.
Terms such as 'the Spanish' or even 'the Europeans' are understood to refer
to states or groups of states, and those acting in their names. As more
Jewish people live outside Israel than in the state, it is strictly wrong in
all sense to refer to Israeli actions as what 'the Jews' do. 'The Israelis'
or 'the Zionists' is correct. Otherwise you are accepting the equation of
Jewish people and their interests with the state of Israel. Simply using the
term 'the Israelis' should be a reasonable request, a definition to do with
nationality rather than ethnicity.
Solidarity,
Ian
