[Marxism] How Class is Gendered -- Caliban and the Witch is a "Must Read"

    Sounds  like a valuable source. By coincidence I recently finished a review 
of  the DaVinci Code for Socialist Action, in the course of which I said  the 
following:
  
  "The Church?s  plot, says the [DaVinci] Code, included the witchhunts which 
murdered millions of women.  In contrast [to the author's conspiratorial 
depiction of this plot], radical historians Barbara Ehrenreich and Deirdre 
English, in their 1972  ?Witches, Midwives, and Nurses,? showed that the 
witchhunts  were ?associated with periods of great social upheaval shaking 
feudalism at its  roots ? mass peasant uprising, the beginnings of capitalism, 
and the rise of  Protestantism.? They suggest that witches? ?Sabbaths? might 
have  been meetings to organize self-defense, overlapping with peasant 
organizing."
      
  While doing research for the article I stumbled on a different review  of 
Federici's book, and it sounds like she took up the challenge  Ehrenreich and 
English posed to fellow radical historians decades ago  to delve further into 
these events.
