Yoshie: As you all know from my previous remarks on the subject,
anti-New-Anti-Semitism-mongers have no evidence that there are lots of
anti-Semites on the Left.

Not by our standards, no, but by other standards, I've been shocked by how 
casually the existence of a large amount of anti-semitism on the left (and 
more on the left than anywhere else) is accepted by liberals and 
left-of-centre types. The propaganda to this respect is powerful and seems 
to have been effective in scaring off all but the most dedicated. Just look 
at the fact the proposed academic boycott of Israel was *much* more 
controversial than equivalent boycotts of South Africa in the 1980s. Only a 
small minority in the academic world wanted to be seen supporting that - 
also smear campaigns were organised by Zionists in America and Israel 
against the proposers of the motions.

There is some (awful) EU-wide definition of anti-semitism, by which 
standards I think all Marxists would fail the test. Can't remember the 
details, but it certainly includes recognition of the right of Israel to 
exist as a Jewish state.
