Left unity is more than Socialist Alliance

We ask if this could be released to all members either in written format
such as Alliance Voices or in electronic form.

We are writing to inform the Socialist Alliance National Executive of
our immediate resignation from the Socialist Alliance and to outline
some of our reasons for making this decision.

We have been members of the SA since its formation in February 2001; we
have all been members of the DSP and actively involved in the SA,
including through playing such roles as branch convenor, but have
witnessed increasing problems within the organisation, which have become
such that we can no longer remain members.

Obviously all members of the Socialist Alliance in its early days had
high hopes for the organisation, although there were many different
opinions about precisely what sort of organisation the SA would be and
what role it could play in Australian politics. There were hopes and
expectations that the project of building the Socialist Alliance would
be made successful by the earlier protests against the WEF in Melbourne
and the national campaign against the war on Iraq.

Over the last eighteen months, though, the reality of the situation has
become increasingly evident and we now see little reason to remain
members of the organisation.
