[Marxism] David Walsh exchange

I wrote to him this morning:

"Great review as always. I didn't bother to see this film [Dardenne
brothers' L'Enfant] after being let down by Le Fils. I have noticed a
similar dropoff in quality in Laurent Catent, another European director
associated with a leftwing perspective in the past."

His reply:

Thanks for your email. There is perhaps a somewhat tragic element in their
evolution, of radical hopes diminished (wrongly, in my view), but
that is not an excuse. As for Cantet, I'm not sure how much there ever was
there. Good intentions probably, a certain honesty. I have a feeling
that L'emploi du temps [Time Out] is most memorable because of the
performance of Aurelien Recoing, a remarkable actor; Vers le sud I simply
found embarrassing. We shall see, I hope I'm wrong.

sincerely,
David Walsh
