[Marxism] Re: Australian and NZ intervention in East Timor

AB: Incidentally, the sum total of Timorese killed by the
interventionist forces in the past few weeks is zero
(unless I missed one or two). That isn't actually of
any particular significance, but it may help comrades
maintain a sense of proportion.

CF: Agree. To the extent that the East Timorese have complained,
they have expressed the view that the international troops have been
too soft on rioters. Or moved too slowly. These views have made
their way into mainstream press reports here but they haven't altered
military tactics on the ground.

An observation, not a criticism or dig at anyone: many (not all) East Timorese
who have visited
Australia are a little perplexed that their most committed allies appear to
also be opposed
to the very things that seem rather desirable: prosperity, patriotism,
consumerism and so on.
