CF: Yes, the Australian government was forced to send troops in in 1999.
It had tried to avoid doing so for most of the year, providing diplomatic 
support
to Indonesia in the latter's campaign to retain control over East Timor.
As for the rest of the post, it's had to judge on email when you're being 
ironic.

I am not being ironic when I say that in 2006 my interlocutors from most 
districts
have indicated that popular opinion is mostly supportive of the stability
provided by international peacekeepers, while of course the people are dismayed
at the state of affairs that necessitated their deployment.
