Re: [Marxism] iPods are evil

Actually, the whole base architecture of the operating system, of which
the kernel is only a (really rather small) part, is BSD. Very roughly
speaking, it's a customized BSD operating system with a Mac OS interface
running on top of it.

music downloaded from iTunes in standard audio CD format, which of
course means the encryption has been stripped out."

Yes, but if you take that CD and wish to rip it back to your computer in
MP3 (or AAC) format, you lose quality. You already lost quality when it
was first compressed in AAC and you lose more by decompressing it to CD
and then back to MP3/AAC.

Joaquin Bustelo went on to write:
"As for BSD, Steve Jobs has been using that since the NeXT cube, 20
years ago. But its what he put on top of it that really counts. The
NeXTstep OS was so advanced that when it was upgraded as OSX for the Mac
it was obviously much better than Windows."

I don't know if "advanced" is the right word. It's so superior to
Windows (or the old Mac OS) because it's architecture is based on a
flavor of UNIX, an operating system designed in the 60's.
