[Marxism] Re: East Timor replies

G. Adler: By other forces I was referring to
indigenous East Timorese. That is while the Indonesian government and
military certainly had a significant involvement in what happened in 1999 at
least in
part they took advantage of internal divisions amongst the East Timorese and
used them to foster the brutal attacks.

CF: Well, some of the major militia groups were as follows:
Mahidi
Halilintar
Ai-tarak
Laksaur
Naga Merah
Besi Merah Putih
Makikit
Tim Alfa
Could you outline the command structures of these groups
and their links to the Indonesian security apparatus?
To get you started, check pp 52-53 and p 119 of Reluctant Saviour.

G. Adler: I don't claim any particular evidence other than that the recent
violent
actions have been carried out by East Timorese against East Timorese and a
number
of commentators have suggested that this might have been a more significant
element of the 1999 events than had previously been generally thought.

CF: A watertight case!
