Goings on in Bolivia...

Shit is hitting the fan in Bolivia, it seems. Have people on this list been
reading the news on Bolivia? Please report here as I believe interesting things
are a-foot, again.

Item: About 2 weeks ago, the OAS condemned the May 1 Decree on nationalization
of the oil and gas industry as a "?violation of the OAS Charter".[It seems that
Evo is taking a cue from Hugo Chavez on Land Reform, instead of Lula, which has
pissed off the international financial capitalists to no end, apparently-DW].

Item: It appears now after much fanfare, that Evo has made a 180 degree
turnaround, denouncing the upcoming Referendum on "Autonomia" as a gimmick
designed to undermine the Bolivian state [Because it will allow, essentially,
the two eastern departments of the country to succeed from the nation and
indigenous autonomy means nothing if the rich can keep the wealth-DW]. This has
caused a rupture with his vice-President, who has denounced Evo's move as
against democracy?and the Army, which, he claims, stands with him. The two
eastern departments are arguing that if the vote goes to "NO", they may
unilaterally succeed from the country as they don't recognize La Paz anyway.

Item: The COB meets tomorrow, part of the plan is to issue a call for a national
campaign for a "NO" vote on "Autonomia".
