RE: [Marxism] South Central Farm Site & Darryl Hannah - follow-up

Why are people who hate the DAILY SHOW so obsessed with watching it?

My take was that Stewart was having a well-earned go at the coverage of the
event, which was entirely superficial and certainly would have mostly not
been there had Darryl Hannah not been involved.

Certainly, the celebrity-obsessed media is standard target for Comedy
Central. On the other hand, Jon Stewart neither said nor even hinted at any
particularly hostility on his part to her or the cause for which she was
being arrested.

Solidarity!

Sorry, but I am often much too obscure. A friend who can't stand Jon
Stewart and the Daily Show asked me what I was writing about.

For the last two nights Comedy Central's The Daily Show, starring Jon
Stewart, has been featuring Darryl Hannah's arrest for sitting in a 3-
story Walnut Tree (apparently protected under California law). The
smirking Stewart seems to think that he is clever as he panders to
the ignorant in his audience. Her act, of course, was to demonstrate
solidarity with community activists who have been cultivating a 14-
acre plot of land for several years.

Although lightly dismissed as a mini-farm, 14 acres is a sizable
piece of agricultural land and properly cultivated can produce a lot
of food. In California, with its mild climate, it would be a year-
round resource. It can also provide a welcome alternative activity
for families, including their children.
