[Marxism] NPR and the demonization of Chavez

Elements that I recalled from this morning's NPR story on street
crime in Venezuela. The NPR site says the sound for this story will
be available this afternoon.

- Chavez's disrespect for law and order have created an atmosphere
that has emboldened criminals
- Crime has risen in the last few years
- Instant kidnappings for ransom has become common
- Chavez has focused on underlying problems rather than police work,
but we are now moving on crime (from a police official)
- The rise in crime is unreported and we have to go to the morgues
and piece it together ourselves (from a long-time reporter for an
opposition newspaper)

This crime and order issue has been created and utilized by the right
wing in Venezuela.

This is done not only to whip up the right wing in Venezuela but,
with NPR's participation, to add to the concerted media attempt to
demonize Chavez in the United States, and to make acceptable further
moves and provocations against the Venezuelan government.

There are millions of dollars available for the U.S. to create and
encourage local gangs and fascist groups. In many countries, there is
cooperation between CIA sponsored fascist groups and street gangs. In
Chicago, the FBI used the COINTELPRO in an attempt to stimulate the
Blackstone Rangers against the Black Panther Party, led by Fred
Hampton (assassinated by the Chicago police with the help of a paid
informer).

In some countries, the CIA has even organized fake communist
demonstrations to justify suppression by right-wing forces. In Chile,
it was behind the assassination of the head of the Chilean army, Gen.
Rene Schneider, because he would not go along with the planned
overthrow of President Allende.
