Dear friends,
I have been working on an examination of the role translation upon the
formation of 'Turkish' leftist thought throughout 1960's specifically and in
general during the whole Republican history. Instead of an exhaustive text
comparisons, I am searching for the motivations behind particular translation
practices, priorities given to specific works etc.
Turkey is a country where translation has always been a significant agenda of
intellectual and political agendas (I know the issue is complicated, there is
not any positive or negative implication here). But what about USA and/or other
'developed' countries? Apart from a distinctive social group who has a command
over foreign languages, the mass of the leftist people in Turkey depends upon
translation work in order to know what is happening around the world. And
approximately, it has always happened so. What about other countries,
especially at a time when our world is dominated by 'global English' ?
I will be gladsome to share your thoughts and experiences.
In solidarity,
e.ü.
