The question shouldn't be "is it acceptable?", but "Is It Helpful?" in
advancing cooperation, between myself and whomever I'm communicating with,
to advance a concrete struggle of the oppressed and/or exploited. The
English language recently reached the million word vocabulary count. If
someone on this list "needs" to use one of those words in a special way, to
prove a "point", I would suggest that said person also "needs" a serious
political and psychological self-examination. Some social consultation
wouldn't necessarily be out of order either.

Of course I agree with you that there's no point in using the word
anymore, regardless of its etymology or meaning. The people who use it
are just provocateurs - or racists.
I'm from the South. A lot of people I know who aren't racist, including
blacks, use the word niggardly. The word "niggle," which means to fuss
about small stuff, is derived from the same root as niggardly. I am
seeking direction. Is "niggle" still acceptable to use?
