Thanks to Carlos Petroni for his comments on what's wrong
with Argentine President Nestor Kirchner's views on the
Argentine army. I know Kirchner didn't meet universal
acclaim on the political left. Petroni's critical remarks
were the second ones I'd received on this same sbject
I promise not to be too cutesy in saying that writing from
the comfort of my dialup connection here in Havana, my idea
was mostly to share the Prensa Latina article and also to
demonstrate that the President of Argentina has publicly
expressed some sharp criticism of the military leadership
of his country. This is quite unusual for an Argentine
president to do (or for the president of any country to do
to his country's army), and I found that notable in itself.
Petroni, probably still writing from the comfort of his
DSL connection in San Francisco, found considerable fault
with the Argentine president's remarks. I found Petroni's
comments interesting and I appreciated them. Indeed, I've
no criticism of Petroni's commments at all.
I was pleased to note Petroni's call, again from the safe
vantage point of San Francisco, California, of his call for
the ABOLITION of the Argentine army, an opinion far more
advanced, progressive and, indeed, revolutionary, when it's
compared with the views of Argentina's elected president.
I'd like to state publicly that, writing from here in Cuba's
capital, I'm fully confident that Comrade Petroni will also
continue to express views which are far more revolutionary
than those of Argentina's elected President.
Walter Lippmann
