Rumsfeld Criticizes Iran's Tie with Shanghai Cooperation Organization

US Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, criticizing Iran's tie with the
Shanghai Cooperation Organization, said "the regime's terrorist links
clash with the aims of the Russian and Chinese-dominated group."

Speaking at the regional security conference staged in Singapore,
Rumsfeld said he finds it "strange" to include Iran in the organization
that earlier proclaimed it opposes terrorism and radicalism.

Iran President Mahmoud Ahmedinajad was invited to the organization's
summit to be held in June.

Iran, an observer in the organization in which Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Tajikistan, Uzbekistan are included, applied for full membership.

Upon another delegate asking Rumsfeld whether or not he is right to
praise Pakistan leader Pervez Musharraf in fight against terrorism,
Rumsfeld said:

"I think I'm right. Pakistan President Musharraf did an excellent job in
a difficult country, environment, and he is determined to overcome
terrorism. He showed an awful leadership and bravery."
