Language reflects the world we have around us. If we discuss the problems
in that world, we are going to use language that those problems helped
produce.

There's always been a current on the Left that saw reforming language as the
way to change society. Not surprisingly, it has always been most popular
among radicals in education. The postmodernist fad, with its emphasis on
deconstruction of meaning, resurrected this trend so successfully that,
today, it is what passes for "radical" or even "Marxist" in higher
education. Imho, it is mostly used to moralize what is simply another code
for redefining a pecking order.

It's worth Louise's pointing out her objection, and people should keep it in
mind when writing. However, the piling on by the guys seems...well,
testosterone-driven.

Stop beating this dead horse. Either bury it or have your barbeque with
it....
