I appreciate the willingness of comrades wishing to discuss teh theory of
permanent revolution. I would, however, appreciate even more if comrades take
ferw days to read it -- the book by Trotsky -- accomppanied by two other pieces
of Marxist literature: 1905: Results and Perspectives by LDT and the April
Theses by Lenin. If it wasn't too much to ask, I will also recommend Marx's
writings about 1848 and teh Lessons of October (by Trotsky).
Much had been said about TPR, and much had been distorted. In time of
capitalist decay and crisis, it is unthinkable for the bourgeoisie to resolve
the democratic tasks they are responsible historically for. It is the task of
the working class to adopt that as part of the program of the socialist
revolution and resolve them by means other than a bourgeois revolution.
Moreover, in those countries where the bourgeois revolution was advanced and
achieved many of its tasks in previous epochs, those gains ar enow under threat
of reversal or elimination: civil liberties are on a retreat, land reform is
being rolled back, national liberation is endangered and democracy is curtailed.
Iit is a theory and as such it was confirmed by revolutionary events: Russia,
1917; China 1949; Cuba circa 1959-61 and by the negative on the present day
situation of capitalism vis a vis the destruction of its primary means of
production: nature, etc
At one point even some Trotskyist affirmed the TPR was only applicable to
economically underdeveloped countries. Never was, not on Trotsky's watch. TPR
is not what the American SWP taught (only half of it) and certainly is not what
Celia Hart proclaims now to be.
TPR is a general perspective for the revolutionary movement, a proposal of
resolution for society's crisis through socialist revolution and a fundamental
part of the pogram for action for the revolutionary party.
