I like the distinction made between "pedagogical issue" and "academic
freedom."  

You have "academic freedom" everywhere and it is protected by the contract,
honored by university traditions, etc.--just so long as it doesn't have any
practical meaning whatsoever.  

On the other hand, any practical governance over the content of your course,
grading, job description, etc., becomes a mere "pedagogical issue" when
administration wants to mess with you over it.
