Re: [Marxism] Iran President Says Democracy Has Failed
Louis wrote:
"Iran is a class-divided society. When students and workers rose up against
the Shah, there was a secular and radical component that lost out to the
clerics. Those clerics were the political expression of what has been called
'bazaar capitalism'. Although I don't go along with the 'third way'
tendencies of the Workers Communist Party, there is little to identify with
in the Iranian government--and least of all its anti-democratic demagogy.
As Tariq Ali said, we are dealing with a clash of fundamentalisms. While we
are absolutely opposed to any US sponsored regime changes in Iran, we are
certainly for a regime change of the kind that brought Mossadegh into
power--or one that is even more radical."
This is problematic stuff. How can you as US leftists hope to have any
credibility when you echo the line of the Project for a New American
Century? Wake up to yourselves! Internationalism begins at home! The best
thing that Louis could do for the cause of global liberation is to forget
Iran and just for once take seriously the words of the Communist Manifesto:
the major task of US leftists is to overthrow their own government.
