[Marxism] First Resolution Adopted by Northeastern Regional Conference of new SDS

RESOLUTION OF THE SDS NORTHEAST REGIONAL CONFERENCE

We, the people gathered at the first Regional
Conference of the new Students for a Democratic
Society, declare:

Whereas, the struggle for a democratic society demands
a struggle for the rights and dignity of all;

Whereas, the struggle against the war demands a
struggle against the racism, xenophobia, and
exploitation that make it possible;

Whereas, participatory democracy cannot coexist with
the exclusion and criminalization of immigrant
Americans;

Whereas, House Resolution 4437 is an assault on 11
million of our immigrant comrades;

Whereas, we are all of different lands, but we stand
together on this common ground, and this is an assault
on us all;

Whereas, immigrant communities have called on us to
stand in solidarity with them in a General Strike for
amnesty on May Day of this year;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Northeast Regional Conference
of Students for a Democratic Society pledges its full
support for "El Gran Paro Americano" this May 1, 2006;
and

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Northeast Regional Conference
of Students for a Democratic Society calls on local
chapters to join the strike and organize
student walkouts, demonstrations, boycotts, and direct
actions that day in solidarity with immigrant
communities across America.

Resolution adopted unanimously in Providence, RI on
April 23, 2006.
