Intersting article, but although initially it argues that
Trotsky's theory of permanent revolution ruled out the
possibility of "bourgeois revolutions" in less advanced
countries, the rest of the article argues, using the example
of Israel's "state capitalism", that in fact it is possible
to develop capitalist societies using state resources: "The
Israeli example is a peculiar example of how capitalism and
the capitalist class can be built not out of a bourgeois
revolution, but from within the state itself." This was done
by having the state create a working class, as the article
explains. But how does that fundamentally differ from the
pattern in the older, more developed capitalist societies?
