Re: [Marxism] "What kind of card is race?"
That example is included in the PNHP slide set and I've used it when
speaking about health care. A few others (though there a many many
more):
Black dialysis patients, according to a NEJM study, are appropriately
referred for consideration of kidney transplant 90% of the time
compared with 98% for whites. Of those appropriate for transplant, 52%
of whites received one -- 17% of Blacks.
The ratio of Black to white infant mortality grew by 25% 1980 to 2000.
The percent of African American babies dying before the age of 1 year
has grown steadily since the late 1940s, falling briefly in the late
1960s and early 1970s, but overall climbing from about 1.6:1 in 1948 to
about 2.5:1 in 2001.
When mortality Black vs. white was examined, Satcher and others
estimated a gap such that there are 83,570 excess Black deaths yearly,
largely African American men (using 2002 data.) Looking back
statistically they showed that "mortality disparities have displayed a
remarkably flat line over four decades."

whites with a criminal records are m likely to be called back for
interviews than Blacks without criminal records, given the same
qualifications. Of course, the criminal justice system is making sure
that there are fewer Blacks without criminal records.
