[Marxism] Chávez Plans to Take More Control Of Oil Away From Foreign Firms
Actually one of the best sources is the DC based Venezuelan Information Office.
It runs the Venezuelan news site and has more, up to the minute news on energy
in the area than anyother web site. For example, on the recent control over
foriegn oil companies, they have a lot more analysis of this than any other
source that I'm aware of.
What was interesting to me in that article as the number of barrels of oil the
facility in quesition can process. I hadn't realized that Cuba uses 150,000 or
more barrels of oil a day, even with a 100% oil fired energy sector, I found
this number very high albeit not totally unrealistically so. It could be that
Cuba, also, is looking for a 'value-added' industry, such as Trinidad has,
that processes more oil than it uses and exports refined products.
On other energy news of note, Brazil is not a small next-exporter of oil having
opened a new off-shore oil rig that ends Brazil's importation of oil.
Lastly, other energy news: the upcoming debate, already in full swing, over
Venezuela's announcement that 'peak oil' has been pushed back about 100 years
because of the soon-to-be included Orinco oil field as part of it's reserves,
making that country the leading oil country in the world, surpassing Saudi
Arabia.
The main peak oil web site, www.energycentral.com/ will be covering this. I
expect the peak oil folks and the Chavista energy supporters to have some
rip-roaring debates.
