This came to me via the internet today. Jim
Hello everyone,
As you all read earlier today, the first day of
the sit-in for Martin Lee Anderson (the boy who was
caught on video tape being beaten to death at a
Juvenile Detention Center) went off successfully. All
30 students, including FAMU student body pres., TCC
student body pres. and FSU senate pres, got into Jeb's
office with no problems and had a long meeting
with him later in the day. Although no one was
arrested, no demands were met either.
So now the 'sit-in' has turned into a 'sleep-in'
and the students will continue to stay and sleep in
the Capital Building until the demands are met.
Students have received amazing support and have even
recieved donations of food and pillows to make it
through the night. This has gained national attention
and the media has been all over this the entire day.
(go to google and just type in 'boot camp death' and
today's event will pop up).
We are asking that everyone please come and join
this cause. If you cant sleep over at the capital
tomorrow (4/20), at least come by and stand in support
with TCC, FAMU, FSU and the Anderson family. Martin
Anderson's parents will be coming tomorrow at 4pm so
please come and fill Jeb Bush's office to full
capacity so that he will really feel pressure from all
of us students to publicly apologize to Martin's
family (which is one of our demands).
The sit-in students will have been there for 24
hours as of 9:00 tomorrow morning and will probably
end up being there for over 48 by the time
the rally starts on Friday (also at the capital).
Please come out in support and join this powerful
cause. We are asking that you try to dress up when
you come to the capital if possible, so that we are
all taken seriously by both the media and the
politicians who have the power to make a change in
this specific case. We need you all for this, please
come tomorrow. The media is there, let's show people
that students can make a real difference.
"Justice Delayed is Justice Denied"
Thank you,
Kelsey Visser
