[Marxism] Re: Kierkegaard

Kierkegaard is fascinating for some, while his greater contemporary,
John Stuart Mill, to whom even Marx had to reply* (he commented
earlier on his father's economic writings) is somewhat ignored by the
Left.

Perhaps Kierkegaard bears some responsibility for those cartoons.

It appears to me that there is a striking similarity in outlook
regarding religion and authority between Samuel Johnson, Edmund
Burke, and Kierkegaard. Perhaps a more educated student of these
could comment.

[An interesting note here by Ashley on the development of Mills's
economic thought. Although today, it is his Logic and his writings on
liberty and women's rights for which he is best known, in his
lifetime, it was the Principles of Political Economy for which he was
more famous. A more intellectually accessible summation and
modernization of Ricardo and Smith, it was the standard text in
economics for over 40 years.]
