Re: [Marxism] who needs the Latino bourgeoisie?

"Simply
going
to one of these immigrants rights marches or Delphi
workers meetings
waving
an obscure socialist publication won't be enough to
challenge the hold
of
the LBs, DPs, UBs, etc. As before, the question isn't
what is to be
done,
but what are the concrete steps. Anything people on
this list have
would
seriously be welcome. "

Agreed. The problem is that we are small and have
little influence. That's been the problem ever since
Hitler and Stalin obviously. Right now raising
demands that deepen and radicalize the movement is
useful not in its agitational value but for its
propaganda value. There is a huge opportunity to
recruit and build a base in immigrant working class
communities in cities in the U.S. The far left needs
to seize this opportunity and if it hasn't already
reoriented itself it needs to do so right now -- I
hope the ISO makes this decision, if it doesn't make
it in a serious way it shows that the group has really
degenerated beyond revolutionary politics and towards
a kind of radical liberalism based in the middle
class.

Anyways it will be harder for those groups who have
concentrated their resources in other social sectors
but still possible in the coming period to grow in the
immigrant proletariat. In L.A. I envision a growth of
the RCP, ISO and PSL who have the largest apparatuses
in the immigrant proletariat which is good, as well as
growth of smaller groups like the one I'm in.

Militants in settings where there are immigrant
working class people need to be initiating actions and
walkouts and the setting up of more permanent
organizations. At Cal State Los Angeles where I am a
credential student a comrade and I are planning on
initiating a walkout. In communities where we have a
reputation we are thinking about initiating something
for May 1st. In areas where we have influence we need
to be pushing a different political perspective from
-- the new slogan is -- "today we protest, tomorrow we
vote!". We need to be pushing for unconditional
amnesty now, a living wage for all workers, healthcare
for all workers, resources for public schools, end to
U.S. imperialism in Latin America, a good jobs program
for white, black AND immigrant workers, etc, a much
different program from the mainstream leaders that
draws the whole class behind the immigrants. These
should be the demands we raise in the communities and
schools where we can lead mobilizations - right now we
are very far from contesting for the leadership of the
movement or pressuring the politicians and bureaucrats
but we should be preparing for such a possibility.
