[Marxism] About the Dallas demo

Much of the Dallas Sunday event was carried live on CNN. No, not that CNN,
but another one of the two ... three ... many CNNs that the original has
spawned, in this case the web service CNN Pipeline.

That is a paid service and consists of four video feeds, one of them
originating in a studio during Mon-Fri. business hours, the rest --oh
glory!-- raw feeds, often from local station or network satellite trucks.
And at nights and on weekends it features a lot of CNN International, which,
while hardly revolutionary, or even mildly progressive, is a lot less
censored and spun than the domestic network appears to be. And Pipeline has
a lot of reruns of press conferences and briefings and so on.

Today they had the Dallas rally on one feed, the statute of liberty on the
other. AFAIK, nothing was going on at the statue of liberty, so it being
Sunday, with not much else going on, I think one of the CNN staffers got
away with making a point.

This is the raw material that people in well-connected newsrooms get to see,
and that I comment on from time to time. A lot of it is, of course, drek,
but sometimes, it's just wonderful to have that inside-the-newsroom access
to the raw feed.

Like today, I was only able to watch that Dallas feed for a short while (I
work Sundays) but it just so happened that when I did watch, my old friend
José Ángel Gutiérrez spoke. Founder of the Texas Raza Unida Party who was
once accused by the gabachos of trying to make "a little Cuba on Texas soil"
in Crystal City, it was a line I must have heard dozens of times when I was
much younger, and was like an injection of adrenaline straight to the heart
to hear it again.

"The first illegals were the pilgrims," he boomed.

Yes they were. That's the problem with Homeland Security, it's never around
when you REALLY need it.

Anyways, the CNN service is $25 a year, or $3 a month. Only available within
the U.S., I'm told, which I assume means with a U.S. credit card. But
there's a two-week free trial.

I *hope* tomorrow (Monday) they'll be carrying parts of the immigrant rights
protests and demonstrations going on all over the country. One of them,
which looks like it will be big, judging by the amount of publicity it has
gotten on the media, is in CNN's home turf of Atlanta.

Las barras y las estrellas se adueñan de mi bandera
Y nuestra libertad no es otra cosa que una ramera
Y si la deuda externa nos robo la primavera
Al diablo la geografia se acabaron las fronteras
